Sowore compares Nigeria to Iran, blasts Tinubu’s government over rising hardship despite oil wealth

Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has strongly criticised Nigeria’s economic situation under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking in a viral statement circulating online, he compared Nigeria to Iran, questioning why Nigerians continue to struggle despite the country’s oil wealth.

“Iran that America is bombing is living a better life than Nigeria that America is not bombing. That’s so sad. And in the midst of it, we are not making money from oil. Crude oil has gone to 98, it’s not reflecting in our lives. But if you go to Iran today, one litre of petrol is still cheaper than Nigeria’s one litre. So what kind of country are we in?” he said.

He further challenged Nigerians to rethink their expectations of leadership, urging them to question the competence of those in power.

Sowore also dismissed the widely used “100 days in office” benchmark, arguing that governance should begin immediately after inauguration.

“Stop asking me questions like, do you have experience? Do you have a manifesto? The people that are governing today, do they have experience or manifesto? The only experience they have is to put people in poverty, killing, stealing, and destruction.

So what are you going to do if you become president for 100 days? Why should you be giving people 100 days to perform when work starts on the day you’re sworn in? Are there not things the president of Nigeria can do without waiting for 100 days? Plenty of things.

But when you put people there who don’t even know what they are doing, they keep deceiving you with 100 days of achievement. After two years, they will say go and get glasses to see the achievements,” he added.
