Drama as IGP Disu replaces police spokesperson with Placid following Tinubu’s appointment

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has removed Benjamin Hundeyin and appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Benjamin, who had served as the police spokesperson since September 2025, was appointed by former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The appointment comes shortly after leadership changes within the Nigeria Police Force, following the resignation of former IGP Egbetokun, who was replaced by IGP Disu after his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Under the new directive, DCP Placid will now serve as the official spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force.

Born on December 2, 1970, Placid hails from Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

He holds a B.Sc. in Geography & Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master’s in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.

DCP Placid succeeds Benjamin Hundeyin as FPRO. No official reason has been given for Hundeyin’s removal, and his new posting has not yet been announced.
