Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has expressed frustration over the security situation in the state, accusing the Commissioner of Police, IbrahimGotan of failing to cooperate with efforts to maintain peace.
Speaking during a press briefing captured in a video circulating online, Adeleke alleged that suspected thugs linked to the APC were responsible for recent violent incidents in the state.
“I’m very, very sad. The Commissioner of Police in Osun State is not cooperating, that’s why we keep having problems. I don’t know what his problem is,” the governor said.
According to Adeleke, he was informed about a reported shootout involving suspected APC thugs, who allegedly attacked residents and opened fire in parts of the state.
“I was told that there was a shootout involving APC thugs in Osun. They came out and started shooting people. I’m trying my best to make sure Osun is calm and there is no chaos, but they keep shooting and killing people,” he alleged.
The allegations come amid reports of attacks and shootings in Osogbo, Ede, and Ile-Ife, with the state government, the APC, and the Accord Party offering differing accounts of the incidents and assigning blame to rival political groups.
At the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command and the APC had not publicly responded to the claims.
