Hardship: “If you lost weight, I’ve lost some too” – Tinubu tells Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has admitted the hardship caused by his administration’s economic reforms, stating that he has also personally felt the impact of the policies.

Tinubu made the remark on Sunday while accepting the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 election.

Tinubu Speaks on Economic Reforms

Addressing party leaders and supporters at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, the president said the reforms introduced by his administration were necessary despite the difficulties Nigerians are facing.

According to him, the process of rebuilding the country has been painful for both citizens and himself.

He said: “I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you lost sleep, I’ve lost some too. If you’ve lost weight, I’ve lost some too.”

“I Asked for This Job” – Tinubu Says

Tinubu stated that he remains committed to carrying out the responsibilities of leadership because he willingly sought the office.

He added: “But I’ve always remembered one thing: in 2022, I asked for this job. You all supported me and I got it. So I must do it.”

Accepts APC Presidential Ticket

The president also formally accepted the APC presidential nomination for the 2027 election, expressing gratitude to members of the party.

He said: “I accept with profound humility and gratitude the nomination of our great party, the APC, to stand again as your presidential candidate in the 2027 election.”

Tinubu Reacts to Primary Exercise

Tinubu revealed that he monitored the primary election process after casting his vote in Lagos, saying he was inspired by the turnout of supporters across the country.

According to him, the peaceful conduct of the exercise showed progress in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He said: “I was glued to the television after voting. I saw the mammoth crowd in Kano and Kaduna, the city boy walking the streets of Calabar.”

APC Primary Results

Tinubu reportedly secured 10,999,162 votes in the APC direct primary conducted across the country, defeating his challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes.
