Omoyele Sowore storms Aba, joins protest for Nnamdi Kanu's release

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has joined an ongoing protest in Aba, calling for the release of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a video circulating online, Sowore is seen in the midst of other protesters during the demonstration, which was staged to demand freedom for the IPOB leader.

The protest follows an earlier announcement by a coalition of Kanu’s supporters, who had planned a demonstration in Aba to press for his release.

Organised under the banner of the Coalition of Lovers of Freedom, the planned demonstration has been tagged a “One Million March” by supporters.

It will be recalled that Nnamdi Kanu, was convicted on multiple terrorism-related charges and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja on November 20, 2025 after a decade-long trial.

The court found him guilty of incitement, belonging to a proscribed organisation and other terrorism offences.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the verdict and imposed life sentences on several counts, while also handing additional jail terms on lesser counts.
