Peter Obi has praised music star Davido for using his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert to draw global attention to Nigeria’s security challenges and the plight of abducted schoolchildren.
The former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 elections made the remarks in a statement shared on his official X handle on Sunday.
Davido had appeared on stage wearing a customised leather jacket featuring the names of pupils and teachers recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The jacket also carried a bold inscription on the back that read, “BRING THEM HOME.”
Davido’s World Cup appearance sparks attention
The singer’s outfit quickly attracted attention online and became a talking point among fans and public figures following the World Cup countdown concert.
According to reports, the gesture was aimed at highlighting the continued captivity of the victims and calling for their safe return.

Obi also reflected on Nigeria’s absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, arguing that the country’s challenge is not a shortage of talent but a failure of leadership.
“Nigeria’s absence from the World Cup, as I previously stated, stems not from a lack of talent but from a conspicuous deficiency in political leadership that has failed to create an enabling environment for talent development…”
