“Peter Obi should have informed us” – Edo Govt reacts to alleged assassination attempt, blames ADC factional rift

The Edo State Government has responded to reports of an alleged assassination attempt on former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, during his recent visit to the state.

Kassim Afegbua, Edo State Commissioner for Information, said Obi should have informed the state government before entering Edo.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Afegbua clarified that earlier comments about Obi’s visits had been misinterpreted.

“People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebholo meant when he said that anytime Peter Obi wants to come to Edo, he should inform the state government. Because Obi is a politically exposed person, we would expect that he would extend the courtesy,” he stated.

The Commissioner added that the incident should not be blown out of proportion, suggesting it could be linked to internal issues within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“What happened in Edo should be located within the ambit of the ADC — one factional group of the ADC versus another faction,” he explained.

The alleged attack on Obi and other ADC chieftains has since sparked nationwide reactions, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.
