The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has publicly apologised to Nigerians for the prolonged power outages that have affected households, schools, industries, and businesses amid the scorching dry-season heat.
Persistent blackouts disrupt homes and businesses
The apology came on Tuesday during a press briefing in Abuja, as frustration mounted over the erratic electricity supply across the country.
“I want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced, especially during this dry season,” Adelabu said.

Adelabu assured Nigerians that improvement is imminent, citing a timeline of two weeks for repairs and resumption of adequate supply.
“With the committee that we have set up, and commitments from gas suppliers, we should start seeing improvements in supply. Two weeks,” he stated.
He noted that a special committee is monitoring gas supply compliance to power plants, while efforts to increase electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts by the end of 2026 remain ongoing.
The minister’s acknowledgment recalls the 2022 dry-season energy crises, which similarly left Nigerians grappling with heat and rationed electricity, highlighting the persistent structural challenges in the nation’s power sector.
