The United Kingdom has announced strict restrictions on movement and airspace ahead of the upcoming state visit of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu next week.
According to Thames Valley Police, the measures form part of a wider security operation coordinated with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other partners to ensure the safety of dignitaries, spectators, and members of the public during the visit.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of the police force’s Joint Operations Unit explained that airspace restrictions are just one aspect of the extensive preparations.
“The air restrictions are just one part of our robust security operation for the state visit of Nigerian President Tinubu next week, with many measures you will see and others you will not,” Hall said on Wednesday.
He added that the police have significant experience in managing security for royal events in the area.
“As a force, we have a vast amount of experience in policing Royal events in Windsor, and significant planning and preparation has gone into this event.
We will ensure everyone attending the state visit, including dignitaries, spectators, and the public, are kept safe to enjoy the historic occasion.”
Authorities also noted that Windsor Castle already operates under permanent airspace restrictions throughout the year.
However, these restrictions will be extended on Wednesday, March 18, to strengthen security ahead of the visit.
The enhanced security measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth and safe state visit as international attention turns to this historic event.
